Posted: Sunday, 07/25/10 Well the best bet lately has been Tuna offshore or seabass and fluke on the inshore fronts. The Canyon has been producing solid catches on the troll for yellowfin in the 45 - 70 pound range the occasional billfish along with some dolphin, longfin and bigeye. The 40 -60 miles range trips have been consistent with bluefin and some dolphin and the occasional yellowfin. The Bluefin range from legal schoolies to larger fish to 150 pounds. I had two nice familes aboard the last two days and we jigged blues well Friday morning early and them went Fluking. The Braun's had fun jigging 2 - 4 pound blues before switching to Fluke around 9:30 am. The action was fast as we genewrally had a ahort fluke on all the time and did manage to keep 5 to Paul's, 12 years old, largest Fluke of the day a 22" 4 pounder. Saturday, we did the same thing witht he Westerhold family. The highlight of Saturday's trip was John hooking into a large Black Drum on a spinning rod while jigging small blues. The line took off and I had to follow the fish maneuvering the boat in position so the fish did not get under the boat. After about haf an hour the Black Drum was aboard and weighed in at 60 pounds. Great catch on a light spinning rod! |

Posted: Thursday, 07/15/10 Bluefishing bounced back today! Scott Andersen and family enjoyed a nice day on the water yesterday, but the fishing was slow. Today the weatherman called for calm but we got rough seas. The fishing part was much improved. Most everyone aboard had a few and some over ten a person. The bait produced the best. Fluking sounded better today as well and tuna are being caught offshore on the troll. Capt Scott just returned with 12 yellowfin to 65 pounds. Most on the troll, but a few were chunked in the dark. Offshore looks good! |

Posted: Monday, 07/12/10 Another nice weekend down the shore. The terrible forecast was wrong again and we had only about half an hour of rainfall on Saturday morning. The blues were tough Saturday but Saturday afternoon George's group from PA had fun with blues to 12 pounds though it was no slaughter the action was good. Sunday was a little better for big blues on Clark spoons. Fluking is action but keepers are tough, seabass fishing has been good with many keepers when the swell is down. |
